Subspecies and Distribution.
C. a. acutirostris SC Asia from W Afghanistan to NW India and nearby SC Asia CIS Eto Tibet.
C. a. tibetana N India and Tibet.

Descriptive notes.

Very drab bird with pale grey-brown or sandy grey upper parts streaked with darker blackish brown over the crown. Hind neck and back in parallel lines. It has a faint whitish supercilium and its breast and throat are white without any streaking or spots in the pectoral region.
A rufous wash on the rump is sometimes detectable and the outer webs of the tail feathers are buff or pale rufous.

Habitat.

breeds in sandy and gravelly habitats with very sparse vegetation, at elevations of 1000 - 5000m. Winters in similar or slightly less barren habitats at low altitudes.

Food and Feeding

Poorly known. Seeds and invertebrates. Forages on ground, in flocks.

Breeding.

May-Jun. Nest, built by both sexes, a depression scrapings in the ground lined with grass and vegetable down.
4 eggs, white with numerous light brown spots, frequently forming a zone at the broader end.

Movements.

It is locally migratory in Baluchistan, with the central Asian or N Himalayan population wintering N and C India.

Status and Conservation

Not globally threatened.

Israel.

In Israel subspecies C. a. acutirostris straggler, in Eilot fields near Eilat.
