Descriptive notes.27 cm, 225 gr, wingspan 60 cm.Small, similar coloration to P. puffinus but white of face extends up around eye,small bill. Juvenil as adult. Races differ on colour of under tail-coverts and darkness of upper parts. Habitat.Marine, occurring over warm, tropical and subtopical waters, more frequent on enshore waters than other shearwaters.Breeds on offshore or oceanicislands on grassy slopes or amongst rocks. Food and FeedingMainly fish, squids and crustaceans.Feeds mainly by pursuit plunging, pursuit diving and surface seizing. Breeding.Colonial breeding, during local summer.Nests in burrows or rock crevices or among boulders. 1 egg, incubation 55 days. Chicks have variable grey down, fledging 75 days. Movements.Most popoations considered fairly sedentary, and birds may visit colonies throughout year, some dispersal, probably mostly of immatures.Status and ConservationNot globally threatened.Widespread and locally anundant.
