Subspecies and Distribution.
Oceanodroma monorhis Japan to Yellow Sea off China and Korea, and N to extreme SE USSR.

Descriptive notes.

19-22 cm; 40 g, wingspan 45 cm. Uniformly dark underwing, shallow fork to tail.
Different size from other all-dark species.
.Juvenile as adult.

Habitat

Marine and pelagic; but also occurs in coastal waters.
Breeds on small offshore islands.

Food and Feeding

No information available on diet. Feeds mainly on wing by dipping, does not patter.

Breeding.

Apr. Forms loose colonies. Nest in burrows. 1 egg.

Movements.

Migrates S and W to winter in N Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea, irregular in Red Sea, straggling N to Elat in Gulf of Aqaba.

Status and Conservation

Not globally threatend. Largest known colonies.

Israel.

In Israel subspecies O. monorhis.. Accidental visitor. One found dead on North Beach of Eilat.
