Descriptive notes.95 cm; Somewhat variable, wings and back can be much paler, highlighting black of head and neck, extent of white varies, some birds lacking white spots on foreneck. Others with no white at all.Juvenile has white underparts and brownish grey neck. HabitatTypically found in damp, open pastureland and sometimes far from water. Also margins of rivers and lakes, coastal areas and forest clearings.Food and FeedingVertebrates and invertebrates, mostly terrestrial, insects, rodents, lizards, snakes, frogs, birds, crabs, fish also scavenges.Passive feeder, partially nocturnal, generally solitary. Breeding.During the rains session, colonial in small mixed colonies, sometimes 200 nests.Nest of sticks usually high in tree, less often in reedbeds or on ground. 2-6 eggs, incubation 25 days, chicks have pale grey down, fledging 50 days, juvenil independent at 60days.
